VoiceFlow or Wispr Flow

Wispr Flow is good, it's the one that leads this category, and that's worth saying before anything else. They're after something different from us, and depending on what you need that makes them the better choice.

01 · Their side

Where they're better.

If any of this is what you need, this page ends here and you've saved yourself the trial.

  • They cover 100+ languages and switch between them on their own. We go with the 30 locales of Apple's engine, and that won't change.
  • They're on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. VoiceFlow is Mac only, with a companion on the iPhone.
  • They have team features: shared dictionary and an admin panel. We don't.

02 · Our side

Three things they can't offer.

It isn't that they haven't got round to them: it's their architecture. Processing on a server and working with no internet don't fit in the same product.

  • It works offline. On a plane, on a train with no signal, in an office with the network down. Their site offers no offline mode anywhere.
  • Your voice never leaves the Mac. That isn't a privacy policy: the code that would send anything doesn't exist. For healthcare, legal or any field handling other people's data, that isn't a detail.
  • You pay once. €59 and that's it — what four months of their subscription costs.

03 · Side by side

The figures, checked.

Theirs come from their own site, with the date on it, because these things go stale. Ours you can check by downloading the app.

04 · The test

How to decide it in a minute.

You don't need to read comparisons: turn off the Wi-Fi and try to dictate with whatever you're using. If it keeps typing, you don't need to switch.

And if you dictate in eight languages or you also work on Windows, stay with them: we beat them at none of that.
